Zedd & Grey의 콜라보 음악 The Middle, 제드는 시계 소리 성애자?

'Get Low'에 이어 독일 프로듀서 Zedd가 다른 아티스트와 함께한 새로운 신곡이다.
미국의 일렉트로닉 듀오 Grey와 콜라보한 싱글곡 The Middle.
2년 전에 발매했던 'Adrenaline' 이후로 오랜만에 다시 콜라보 곡을 낸 것이다.
이번 신곡은 'Stay'와 똑같이 퓨처 베이스 스타일이 눈에 띄는데
그보다 더 눈에 띄는건 째깍째깍 거리는 시계 소리.
Stay에도 시계 소리를 넣더니만 이쯤되면 시계 소리 성애자가 아닌가 싶다.

유튜브에 있는 반응들을 살펴보면 좋은 평이 압도적으로 많은 편은 아니다.
그도 그럴 것이 제드가 1집•2집 앨범에 비하면 노래 스타일이 달라진게 눈에 확 보일 정도라서..
1집이 너무 명반인 나머지 2집 이후로 점차 '퇴물' 소리를 듣게된 제드였는데
필자도 2집이 막 나온 당시에는 1집보다 확연히 떨어지는 퀄리티 때문에 많이 실망했었다.

하지만 꽃이 지고 나서야 봄인 줄 알게된 걸까.
제드의 최근 신곡들을 들어보면 그 실망감만 들었던 2집 앨범이 너무나 그리워진다.
가만히 듣고만 있어도 힘이 넘쳤던 제드의 프로그/일렉트로 하우스는 대체 어디로??


물론 아티스트들도 때로는 자신이 만들어내는 스타일을 바꿀 필요가 있지만
남들이 만들어내는 노래 스타일을 따라갈 필요는 없다고 생각한다.
이번 제드의 신곡은 평범 그 자체인 퓨베 스타일이라 정말 실망스럽다.
그리고 개인적으로 이번 신곡이 마음에 안드는 이유는 노래 구조가 'Stay'와 거의 비슷하다.
Stay 2.0이라고 해도 믿을 정도의 퀄리티...들을 수록 실망감만 든다.

이제 남들 따라하기 식의 퓨처 베이스나 트로피컬은 그만 내고,
한번쯤은 본인의 옛 스타일로 다시 팬들에게 컴백했으면 좋겠다.
1집까지는 안 바라지만 2집 앨범때 처럼 존나게 파워풀했던 음악으로 다시 돌아와주길 ㅜㅜ
